THE PROJECT
Write, illustrate, and self-publish a story book about exploration, discovery and friendship for readers big and small.
OBJECTIVES
• Create a story inspired by something deeply-rooted in my heart
• Make the content digestible and relatable to young readers
• Be tactile by using mixed media like ink, paint and collage
• Document the process through photos and writing
• Learn something new—self-publishing!
THE RESULT
• A 32-page paperback book for young readers PreK-3
• Debut at a pop-up art shop in DTLA
• An Etsy store with paper products and tiny wearables inspired by the story’s characters
• Two years worth of memories writing, editing and art-making at cafes across LA
• My first physically-published, collaborative art piece distributed amongst numerous family, friends and friends of friends
